Why dictionary form and one sentence per verb

Dictionary form (辞書形) is the plain, unconjugated shape of a verb — 話す, 食べる, 行く. It is the form dictionaries list, the form every conjugation is built from, and the form worth memorising first: once 話す is solid, 話します, 話して and 話した are small steps rather than three separate words.

A verb on its own is hard to hold onto. 見る and 見える look almost identical until you see 「星がよく見える。」 next to 「映画を見る。」 — the sentence is what fixes the difference. Each verb below carries one short sentence with its kana reading, so you learn the word and a place to use it at the same time.

The list runs from N5 basics through N4 and a handful of N3 verbs, grouped by situation — getting through the day, moving around, eating and shopping, work and study, feelings, talking to people. Filter to one situation when you want a themed session, or print the whole thing and work down it with a pen.

Questions

What is the dictionary form of a Japanese verb?

It is the plain form you find as the headword in a dictionary — 話す rather than 話します. Japanese verbs conjugate from this form, so learning it first means the polite, te- and past forms follow a rule instead of being memorised one by one.

Which JLPT levels do these 100 verbs cover?

72 are N5, 24 are N4 and 4 are N3. Use the level filter to stay inside one level, or leave it on “All levels” to work through everything in situation order.

How does shadowing mode work?

It plays the verb at 70% speed, then its example sentence at normal speed, then moves to the next entry by itself. The audio is recorded ahead of time in one consistent Japanese voice — the same voice the KaChiKa JA app uses — so it sounds the same on every device and needs nothing installed.

Can I print the list or save it as a PDF?

Yes. The print button lays the list out as a compact A4 checklist with a tick box per verb and keeps entries from breaking across pages. Choosing “Save as PDF” in the print dialog gives you a file.
